This interactive panel discussion across various global contexts will consider the role of faith-based actors and religious communities in formal and informal peace processes. Starting with a broad framing of the roles and influences these stakeholders embrace across multiple regions, an extensive case study will illustrate the factors that influence faith-based actors’ abilities to participate; the challenges and limitations that face those interested in participating; and how their participation is uniquely situated amongst other stakeholders in peace processes. New trends and best practices in interreligious dialogue approaches will be shared, along with ideas for how agricultural and religious practices can be leveraged by communities seeking to remain connected to their land and livelihoods in conflict contexts. The session will close with suggestions for how communities can use participatory problem solving strategies, including interfaith dialogue, to unite against perpetrators seeking to expose community vulnerabilities through the creation of locally based solutions and governance.
